There is a lot of thoughtful, delightful and elegant writing in this book. There is also some rather annoying and tedious pages. But even there, I give the author great credit for her candor and effort to overcome some of her self perceived weaknesses. Frankly, I bought the book to learn more about Sifnos, 1 of 24 Greek Islands we have been privileged to visit. Our time on Sifnos was short, but long enough to believe it was a particularly unique and charming place that we would like to revisit.The author had spent considerable time on the island, but before the book project mostly in the Summer and on holidays with family. Here she is mostly "alone" for 100 days in the Fall and Winter.. She readily confirms that the locals keep some distance from Athenians and other tourists, although that probably cuts both ways. She is hopeful and successful in being accepted in the community.You do learn a bit about some of the good people that call the island home year round and some of the local customs, but not as much as I had hoped for. One learns a lot about Daphne! Having recently completed and published a travel memoir of my own this year, I realize the story has to come from your own perspective. She made a full and whole-hearted effort to establish herself as a writer, and she succeeded. I was attracted by the title and the 'project' assumed by Dafni. The story of abandoning a pretty structured life abroad to start working on a book, in a small Greek island, off season for tourists, is certainly an appealing one. Especially for someone like me, who loves Sifnos as the island which changed my life, and is working on writing a business book but have not dared to challenge my 'pretty structured' life yet. Truly original book project, nicely spread in 100 days+4 for kindle readers, which engulfs the magic and the boredom of an ordinary day, and lets the reader slide in them with company! Enjoyed reading it, although at times tempted to abandon it due to its lack of a compelling plot. Kept notes on certain self help quotes. Good luck Dafni and hope you keep writing.
